R∴L∴S∴ Osiris Amenti Resurrectus No. 3

Respectable Symbolic Lodge. Under the invocation of Osiris in the Realm of the West, conqueror of dismemberment and death.

I am yesterday, today, and tomorrow, and I have the power to be born a second time. Book of the Dead · chapter 64 · words of the deceased identified with Osiris

The Name

The lodge takes its invocation from the triad of the Osirian myth:

  • Osiris (𓊨𓁹) — the god murdered by his brother Set, dismembered into fourteen pieces scattered throughout Egypt, patiently reassembled by Isis and resurrected to reign over the Realm of the West, judge of souls. Patron of the Initiate par excellence. In the Rite of Memphis-Mizraim, the myth of Osiris replaces that of Hiram Abif in the degree of Master.
  • Amenti (𓋀𓏏) — the West, the "Land of the West", the Realm of the West where the Sun sets and where the dead are transformed. It is the place where Osiris reigns as Lord of Eternity. The Masonic initiation of the 3rd degree, symbolically, is a descent into Amenti.
  • Resurrectus — Latin, "resurrected." The full name of the lodge condenses the entire initiatic doctrine of the Rite: the Initiate is Osiris-in-Amenti-resurrected, the one who has died to the profane man and is raised as a Master.

It is the most densely charged lodge name in the Mexican roster of the SGO. To work under this invocation is to work under the central myth of the Rite, in its most complete form.

The myth of Osiris in the 3rd degree

In contrast to the version of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite — which dramatizes the death of Hiram Abif, architect of Solomon’s Temple, murdered by three bad companions who sought the master's word — the Ancient and Primitive Rite of Memphis-Mizraim dramatizes the death of Osiris.

The structure is analogous: three conspirators (Set and his accomplices), a murder that deprives the Master of the secret, a patient search (Isis gathering the pieces of the body), a resurrection that returns the murdered to the throne as Lord of the Dead and Righteous. The reading is Egyptian where the Scottish is Jerusalemite; the geography is that of the Nile valley where the Scottish is that of Jerusalem; the initiatic result is the same: the Master Mason has gone through symbolic death and is resurrected as a complete Initiate.

It is a more ancient version of the same initiatic archetype — the Mystery of Murder and Resurrection — and therefore the Rite of Memphis-Mizraim asserts that its work, far from being a nineteenth-century romantic innovation, is a restoration: the recovery of the earlier mold from which universal Freemasonry afterwards took its templar scheme.

Egyptian Freemasonry is not merely oriental decoration. It is an initiatic structure. Every symbol is an organ of interior work. Robert Ambelain · X° Grand Master World

Why No. 3

Osiris Amenti Resurrectus is the third lodge constituted under the Symbolic Grand Orient of Mexico, following the R∴L∴S∴ Khepri-Ra-Atum No. 1 (mother lodge) and the Akhetaton Triangle No. 2 (in formation). It works in full — seven minimum officers, regular meetings, workings of the Rite in its three degrees.

Table of Officers

The R∴L∴S∴ Osiris Amenti Resurrectus No. 3 works under the following documented table of officers:

V∴B∴ Luis Rodolfo Nájera Ramírez V∴M∴ · Worshipful Master
V∴B∴ Luis Rodolfo Nájera Ramírez i∴o∴ Amon Bethor · i∴o∴ Dominus Noctis
V∴B∴ David Miguel Ángeles Lara S∴W∴ pro tempore + Secretary pro tempore
V∴B∴ David Miguel Ángeles Lara
V∴B∴ Voltaire Méndez Rodríguez J∴W∴ · Junior Warden
V∴B∴ Voltaire Méndez Rodríguez i∴o∴ Serpiente

The remaining offices — S∴W∴, Orator, Treasurer, Almoner, Master of Ceremonies, Expert, Inner Guard, Tyler — are appointed by the V∴M∴ each cycle or in the process of election. The "pro tempore" for Secretary means interim appointment until permanent.

Ritual Work

  • Opening and closing of the Temple according to the Rite's ritual.
  • Initiation, passing, and raising to the three symbolic degrees, with special ritual emphasis on the degree of Master and the Osirian myth.
  • Work on the trestleboard, instruction, and internal conferences.
  • Open meetings on designated dates and on the feast days of the Egyptian calendar (particularly the Opening of the Heliopolitan New Year).
  • Joint meetings with the sister lodges of the SGO.

Symbols of the Board

The Lodge Board of Osiris Amenti Resurrectus includes the classic symbols of the Masonic symbolic Lodge together with the specific signs of the Egyptian Rite:

  • The two columns Boaz and Jachin, with their capitals.
  • The black and white mosaic pavement.
  • The square, the compasses, the mallet and the chisel.
  • The luminous Delta with the central Hebrew Yod.
